Because of the demand for land by the rapidly growing population of Kenya, all forests including Mount Kenya are under immense pressure with agricultural expansion inexorably creeping up the slopes and slowly destroying indigenous forest. The lower limit of the Mount Kenya Forest now ranges from 2000 to 2500 meters (approx. 6,500 to 8,500 ft)
